Comedy Dialogue Script used in a Writing Exercise
During the Game Writing Masterclass, one of the tasks set was to write a script based on the following prompt:
Location | A store or outdoor vendor booth; any setting or genre |
Characters | There are three total: two customers and one vendor. These can be existing game characters, characters you create, or a mix of both. |
Concept | Customer A wants to return an item for a full refund, but the vendor won’t allow it. Meanwhile, Customer B is waiting impatiently to make their transaction. You get to decide what the item is and why the vendor won’t allow a return. Make this a scene with a clear beginning, middle, and end. |
I used this task as an opportunity to write existing characters in an authentic way. The two existing characters I used in this task (Geralt from The Witcher and Nathan Drake from Uncharted) are characters who I believe have a distinctive style, providing a challenge for myself. I chose to use comedy for the scene and ensured that every character had a desire, which created the core conflict between all three characters.
